Rising from the ashes of The Scotch of Saint James – Perth’s most potent rock band, Bats are what you would call an anomaly. Transcendent of era, these Perth rockers could be well-placed in any decade of rock n’ roll music. Their sound is hard to pin down. Like something you would hear on a much loved vinyl record; dreamy vocals swirling with a vortex of psychedelic riffs, fuzzy guitars and vocal melodies that allows Bats’ music to transcend with a timeless quality.
What began as a solo project is now a roll call of esteemed Perth musicians that know how to deliver: Michael Paver (TSOSJ, The Slim Pickins), Jozef Grech (The Infidels, Project Mayhem), Pete Acklin (The Volcanics) and Tim Stacey (High Horse, Ruby Boots); plus the additional studio personnel of Malcolm Clark (The Sleepy Jackson), and Andy Lawson (The Avenues) who produced the EP.
Working on new material since releasing their 2015 debut single Alexus Nexus, Bats are ready to come out of hiding in their studio cave to present their debut EP, Saturday 8th October. This self-titled EP is the first release from the band since last year, and the launch is a rare opportunity to catch the band performing live.
Support will be given by perennial crowd favourites Pat Chow, along with The Nectars and Joe Bludge. Considering Bats are known as being more of a studio project, the EP launch promises to be an epic experience to see the dynamic band live; complete with soulful yet crushingly tight rock n’ roll.
