Where on earth did January and February go!? Summer may be over, but the music and festival love is still going strong on the local front. The Perth music scene is heated with action including Badlands Bar’s newest festival City Limits rocking Northbridge over the Labour Day long weekend. Sets on the Beach will end summer with a bang with their full moon party and the iconic Day on the Green will see Don Henley back on Aussie shores.

Local album and video launches are packed for March with Ah Trees, Big Orange, The Swamp Stompers, Bobby Alu and Dune Rats keeping things busy. Canadian rockers The Jerry Cans make their way over to launch their latest album, along with other International stars including Meshuggah, Sublime, The Specials, Don Henley, Shapeshifter, Beenie Man and more. Scarborough hot-spot Indi Bar launches a new Smooth as Soul night this month and we see tour action from The Waifs, Kallidad, Illy, Hang Massive, Spiderbait, Things of Stone and Wood, Birds of Tokyo, Mental As Anything and Band of Frequencies, just to name a few.

Beaufort Street Songwriter’s Club

Info: Melbourne’s favourite folkies Things of Stone and Wood are playing their top ten, gold record ‘The Yearning’ in full for the first time live this March at the Fly By. It’s been twenty-five years since the album broke through, paving the way for Australia’s burgeoning folk scene including The Waifs, John Butler and Angus & Julia Stone. After re-forming in 2014 for a sell-out tour, the band proved that their crowd were still as loyal as ever and the decision to play ‘The Yearning’ for another round was an easy one. The band’s only 2017 shows will feature the album’s full fourteen tracks from beginning to end as well as some other crowd favourites from other albums in what will be not just a tribute to one of Australia’s all-time best albums, but also to the band’s enduring legacy in Australian folk rock.
