There’s absolutely no denying that listening to music makes you feel pretty damn good. It’s mood changing – almost instantaneously. From the moment we are born, our brains become wired to process, understand and relate to music. For many of us, music has become a necessity for survival – a core function of our brains.
Consequently, it should come as no surprise the scientific studies behind music and its affect on us. Research shows that music is linked to improving a variety of different health issues, it boosts productivity for a gym session and it’s a natural aphrodisiac that simply makes us feel good. Music has the power to evoke positive emotions, romantic feelings and chivalrous behaviour.
So what happens when you combine music and making love together? The two most stimulating activities. Both sex and music are heavily reliant on rhythm, so wouldn’t it naturally heighten your sexual experience to mix the two?
With proven psychological benefits that it enhances the whole involvement, listening to music whilst having sex can actually make you perform better in the bedroom too. And whilst actually choosing a song can prove to be difficult when you’re in “the mood”, it makes us curious as to just why it’s so worth it (if you haven’t already found that out for yourselves.)
With the release of the scorching hot 50 Shades of Grey movie this week and Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought that now would be the perfect time to delve deep into this seductive combination. Creating a juicy ‘all you can have’ sex mixtape, here are a few songs you can get down and dirty to this V-Day – before, during and after…
Dim the lights, bring out the candles and lubricate your mind, body and soul with these bed-rocking beats.
AC/DC – You Shook Me All Night Long:
An absolute classic and easily one of my favourite songs from the Aussie rock band, You Shook Me All Night Long is sexy, stimulating and freakishly fantastic. Not only are the lyrics a little raunchy, but the rocking beats will get you shaking all night long.
Nine Inch Nails – Closer:
With some of the most suggestive lyrics out there, Closer is a song that’s raw, erotic and sexually explicit. Not only is it one of the best heavy rock songs to date, but it oozes a vibe that’s super, super hot.
Ginuwine – Ride my Pony:
Deliciously sexy, Ride my Pony is chilled and perfect for setting the scene. The 1996 hit has a sexual entendre to it and offers a perfect backtrack to get you in the mood.
Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get it On:
Now we couldn’t have a sex mixtape without at least one slow, sexy love song on it and Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get it On is absolutely ideal. It’s gentle rhythm, sexy guitar lick and seductive tone is enough to make anyone want to make love!
The Offspring – Want You Bad:
One of Offspring’s all time classics, Want You Bad is a twisted love song with a sweet chorus. Whilst the punk-rock vibe might not be everyone’s mood-booster in the bedroom, it’s definitely got a raunchy appeal to it that’ll may you want to get freaky with your loved one.
Ben Harper – Sexual Healing:
Although this song is originally by Marvin Gaye, I’ve put down Ben Harper’s version because I love it that much better (there, I said it!). The song is naturally flirtatious, but Harper’s version just turns the notch up that little bit more. The lyrics are perfect and tie nicely into just how healing sex really is for you.
The Notorious B.I.G – Nasty Girl:
Excessively dirty, this turn-me-on track by hip-hop legend Notorious B.I.G is pretty damn sweet. And go figure – the lyrics mention listening to Prince whilst getting down and dirty too…perfect!
UB40 – Bring Me Your Cup:
I had the pleasure of seeing these guys live a few months back and they were simply amazing. Bring Me Your Cup isn’t just one of my favourite UB40 tracks, but it’s a beat that’s smooth and breathless – amazing for staying all day in bed too.
Snoop Dogg –Fresh Pair of Panties On:
Steadily grinding to this song can be a super erotic way to remind your loved one exactly which parts of their body you love having a sneak-peak of. Like the Notorious B.I.G track, the doggy-style loving Snoop sings about putting a little Miles Davis on to get you in the mood too. Good to see he agrees with this sex and music combination concept!
Monifah – Touch it:
One of my all time favourite RnB tracks, this song will definitely make you bounce in the bedroom. With lyrics far from subtle, “could you just put that thing on me, so I can just freak on you and you can just freak on me”, the beat is driven and arousing.
Bob Marley – Stir it Up:
Reggae songs have a natural vibe to them that ooze romance and relaxation, but Bob Marley’s Stir it Up is perfect for in the bedroom. It’s one of his dirtier tracks that’s encouraging and satisfying, and when he sings, “I’ll push the wood, stir it, stir it together then I’ll blaze your fire”, he’s definitely not talking about sitting around the campsite.
Silk – Freak Me:
The famous “I wanna get freaky with you” song is tasty and teasing, daring you to get out the whipped crème and go all out.
Jack Johnson – Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down:
This track is dreamy with a vibe that’s simply sexy and romantic. With a softly rolling guitar rhythm and lyrics that’ll make you feel like you’re all theirs, Girl I Wanna Lay You Down will have you burning up the bedroom.
Tenacious D – F*ck Her Gently:
Whilst a bit of roughness in the bedroom can definitely be a turn on, this song is a humorous reminder that you don’t always have to go hard. Whilst it may be difficult to make love too when you’re just going to want to sing out the lyrics and have a giggle, I couldn’t not put it on the list!
Charles H. Brown – Lick Them Lips:
The only dance track I’ve put down, Lick Them Lips has a dirty jungle beat that’ll get you roaring like a lion, or purring like a pussy – whatever way you like it.
Blackstreet – No Diggity:
Deliciously phat, No Diggity is a killer beat to get down to on the d-floor, so moving it into the bedroom is a given. With an ideal tempo to give your lover a pre-lap dance, its juiciness will give you all the warm up moves.
Tweet & Missy Elliot – Oops Oh My:
Released in early 2002, R&B soul artist Tweet teamed up with American rapper Missy Elliot for this hypnotising track. It’s a sexy strip-tease single that’ll allure your lover in and get you both caught up in the sheets.
The Roots – The Seed:
The second single off my favourite Roots album Phrenology, The Seed is an immediately satisfying track with a cool and magnetic beat. Whilst you may or may not want anyone’s seed fertilised this Valentine’s Day, it’ll most definitely get you in the mood for some hanky-panky.
Savage – Swing:
This song doesn’t just make you want to dance, but it’ll have you nailing all the hottest sex positions in the sack too. Although the lyrics are a little sophisticated for a track that has such a lascivious beat, it’ll swing you into a lustful-love craze – if you let it.
People use music to not only communicate their feelings, but to also alter a mood and experience. Can a sensual mixtape be more arousing than foreplay and play an important part of boosting your sex life? I think so!
