Hard rock and heavy metal fans, your prayers have been answered! After months of speculation, UK’s iconic Download Festival has finally revealed the details of its 2018 Australian event. The rumours are true: Download Festival is coming to Australia! The British music festival, which has been running in the UK since 2003, will make its debut in Melbourne. Much to the excitement of the rest of us, Download Festival has plans of expanding each year to eventually becoming a nationally touring event. Stay tuned! It’s time to welcome one of the biggest events in the UK to Australia.
The last rock/metal festival we had was Soundwave, which many Aussies were sad to see go in 2015. But with Download Festival Australia officially rolling forward, the hard rock and heavy metal festival scene looks promising. Australia will be popping its Download cherry on Saturday, 24th March 2018 at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse. The festival will see 28 acts shredding across four stages in front of 25,000 moshers.
“There’s definitely space for a heavy festival which we want to slowly grow, starting in Melbourne. We want this to be sustainable”. – Live Nation’s Nigel Melder said.
Download Festival will be put on by Live Nation, Unified and Secret Sounds. “When it comes to festivals, heavy music fans have had little option of late, with Download recently expanding from its Donington stronghold, into Paris and Madrid, it seems like the perfect time for it to storm down here. We have 28 bands in total, 1/3 of those are Australian. We are really excited to have the Australian artists on the line up for Download Melbourne, Oz heavy acts are drawing a lot of people both here and overseas so we are happy to be able to showcase that strength.”
The line-up was announced early this morning on Download Festival Australia’s official website. News that’s sure to slap a smile across the face of heavy music fans across the country. Drum roll, please…
Korn, Prophets of Rage, Limp Bizkit, Mastodon, Good Charlotte, NOFX and Suicidal Tendencies are just some of the acts which will make 2018’s line-up.
Tickets go on sale Thursday 16th November and can be purchased from here.
