Summer is only just around the corner and you know what that means? 2 solid months loaded with music festivals, sunshine and great times! The local scene in Perth is exploding with EP launches and tasty tunes, plus there’s a few international acts coming this way too so stay tuned.

Season 3 of The Newport Record Club has finished (we’ll announce when season 4 is about to start, don’t worry) but the Record Club has a few ‘Rewind’ sessions in November with some of the best shows over the last few seasons, just in cased you missed anything awesome or want to relive a few favourites.

Sunday Music: Timothy Nelson

They Might Be Giants

Info: The duo have spent half their life together in TMBG, and along the way have perfected their original sound through memorable melody and a sly bit of humour that never crosses into parody. Along with their impossibly catchy songs, (remind yourself below) They Might Be Giants high concept, low budget music videos helped the band stand apart, and rocketed the duo to the top of the burgeoning US alternative rock scene, and then on to international mainstream success. Festival of the Fret

Stan Walker

Info: New Zealand recording artist, actor and television personality, Stan Walker, burst onto the music scene in 2009, winning the seventh and final season of Australian Idol. Making a bold move with his latest album, Stan decided to press pause on a batch of his new and original material and instead cover some of the greatest soul songs ever recorded. He explains, “These are songs I’ve loved forever and songs I’ve fallen in love with all over again. They’ve always been with me and I wanted to make them my own.” The album includes covers of songs by soul giants including Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Bob Marley and more. Naughty by Nature 25th Anniversary Tour

Info: The ‘90s are often described as the Golden Era of hip hop with the decade introducing an array of acts, many of whom have stood the test of time and influenced generations of artists to follow. One such act is the Grammy Award winning hip hop trio, Naughty By Nature, born from the streets of East Orange, New Jersey, or better yet, the streets of ‘’Ill-Town’’. The trio of Treach (Anthony Criss), Vin Rock (Vincent Brown) and the man responsible for their sound, super producer DJ Kay Gee (Keir Gist) have been a mainstay on world stages for 25 years since hitting the charts with their self titled debut album in 1991, which featured the classic ‘’O.P.P’. Indi Sounds WAM Showcase

Info: Already regarded as one of the most dynamic live entertainers on the planet, Florence Welch’s return to the stage this year has shown no downturn. So energetic and spirited was her headlining performance at Coachella’s first weekend this year, that she broke her foot. Ever the entertainer though, she not only still performed her second Coachella slot the following weekend, but brought one of the more passionate and fiery sets of the entire weekend – even though she was sat on a stool for the entire set. Info: The Ruts were a UK reggae influenced punk band formed in 1977. The band consisted of singer Malcolm Owen, guitarist Paul Fox, bass player Segs Jennings and drummer David Ruffy and were active in anti-racist causes as part of the Misty In Roots People Unite collective, playing several benefits for Rock Against Racism. The group began to evolve and became more musically adventurous, incorporating reggae and dub into their repertoire. Leeches! Blurred Visions Album Launch

Info: No strangers to Australian shores, New Zealand band SIX60 are pleased to announce they will be back in Australia this November and December visiting Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney.The first half of 2015 has been all about New Zealand for the band where their much anticipated second album was released in February and is now certified platinum. After 28 weeks the album still sits in the Top 15 on the album chart. Now signed to iconic record label Capitol Records, the band are based in the US while they release the album over there.
