In the 15+ years they’ve been releasing albums, Shinedown have become one of the most popular and successful rock bands. Now, Shinedown fans can prepare themselves for another epic release! The American rockers have announced plans to release a new album in 2018. The first single from the effort should make its online debut as early as January. The timeline was revealed in a recent interview with singer Brent Smith and bassist Eric Bass on 97.7 WQLZ radio station with West Styles last week.
“We started the sixth Shinedown record the middle of [this] January,” Smith said in the interview. “We entered the process of writing in the studio. We’re gonna finish this run that we’re doing, and then we’re going back to the studio. We’ve got a couple of shows to take care of in August — finishing up on the 9th — and then we’re in Los Angeles recording for pretty much the rest of August. We’ve got three more shows in September and then enter the studio again. Right now, we’re working in Charleston, S.C.”
Bass, who will be producing the new album, says that 17 songs have been written. “We feel really strongly about a handful of them that will be either on the record or really close to it,” explains the bassist. He adds that plans are in place to continue writing more while tracking the ones that have been written. The release will mark the first time Bass has produced an entire Shinedown record, having previously helped for individual tracks.
“He’s ready to do it, and he’s excited about doing it, and we’re excited about the process of it being us four,” Smith said. “Of course, we’ll work with a couple of engineers here and there. But, I mean, in a lot of ways, man, it’s something that we get to do together, and it allows us to really, really focus on the sound of Shinedown and make sure that we’re writing the most incredible material that we can come up with.”
The forthcoming record will be the band’s follow-up to their 2015’s Threat to Survival, which was full of gut-busting Shinedown goodness. The album striked a cord with its listeners. It was edgy, blood-flowing and fuelled with explosive, pounding drumbeats, melodic synths and well-written lyrics. Shinedown’s distinctive rock sound was still there, but they changed things up just enough to keep it interesting. And boy did it work. Based on their last releases, Shinedown certainly have a lot to live up too. But, if their 2018 release is anything like their back catalogue, they’re definitely heading down the right path.
Stay tuned for the release date. In the meantime, have a listen to Cut the Cord of Shinedown’s 2015 album below.
